OASIS: Open Architectures in Schools in Society
Author: Mariano Sanz Prieto

OASIS is a project that promotes small virtual communities in schools, concentrating particularly on how the role of socialisation can be enhanced by the Internet.

The project required the development of sophisticated, interoperable computer networks and in 2003 and 2004 both local and regional open telematics and informatics architectures for school educational networks were set up, together with zonal servers that could meet the automated maintenance needs of these school networks.

Also, a new pedagogical model, based on collaboration has been develop, to be tested in the pilots together with the technical developments. And besides all this, and based on the ongoing work of SIF (Schools Interoperability Framework), a data model for interoperability among school applications, at an administrative level, but also a pedagogical one, in this last case, taking also in consideration IMS specifications.
