Spring Day in Europe
Author: Brigitte Parry

Spring Day in Europe is a pedagogical platform for schools to integrate EU developments to the curriculum. It is a campaign that leads schools to the organisation of a European day of debate and knowledge exchange with local, regional, national or international personalities and students on the first day of Spring.

It is a unique occasion for a large and dynamic network of teachers and students and an opportunity for young European to get actively involved in and possibly influence European processes.

Spring Day in Europe 2006 is held on 21 March 2006 and on 9 May 2006. In order to reach out to as many schools as possible and maximise their input into the debate, Spring Day on 21 March 2006 and Europe Day on 9 May 2006 are the two highlights of the event. Schools have access to all the tools, activities and services of the project to organise events on either or both dates.

In 2005, between mid-October 2004 and 17 March 2005, 6,600 schools from all EU and candidate countries registered to learn about the EU, its values, its Constitution and to organise a debate at school on European issues. More than 1500 resources were selected by the Spring Day team of pedagogical advisors and more than 400 schools worked on trying to understand decision making processes at European level.

Spring Day creates an unprecedented incentive for young Europeans to understand issues and make their voices heard.
