The "Energy is our Future" project seeks to enhance and support energy education across the curriculum in schools in the European Union, as well as in Candidate and EFTA Countries. The aim is to bring students to inspire an energy-efficient behaviour to wider society. The project website offers teaching and learning resources, Web-based activities and a competition.

Besides the competition, Web-based activities include "My Energy Train Story" which invites students to contribute with individual or collective stories on saving energy, and monthly chats with senior representatives from the world of politics and business on energy-related topics.

The first chat, on 30 November, will be hosted by Dr. Stauber, BMW Head of Department for Operational Stability and Materials, on the subject of energy efficiency and car design. Hugo Verlomme, the French journalist, futurologist and author of more than twenty books, has also already agreed to chat with the students in April 2007.

The teaching and learning resources and the online activities are intended to help students prepare competition entries representing their view on energy efficiency, energy savings and/or renewable energy solutions. A competition entry has to feature a poster, a slogan and a text describing the message they want to get across. Winners will be invited to Brussels to attend an awards ceremony in June 2007.

Plastics materials and products play an important role in energy efficiency through their applications in insulation, transport and packaging where their efficiency and light weight largely contribute to energy savings. The "Energy is our Future" project is therefore organised in partnership with PlasticsEurope, the association of European plastics manufacturers, official associate of the Sustainable Energy Europe campaign to raise awareness and change the landscape of energy.
