FuturEnergia to strengthen its impact in school and society in 2008-2009 Author: EUN News
PlasticsEurope and European Schoolnet announced that the “Energy is our Future” (FuturEnergia) school programme will start in September 2008. The competition is organised for the third year running to strengthen, enhance and support energy education across the curriculum. Schools in the European Union, as well as in Candidate and EFTA countries can participate. This year the competition will focus on the impact of energy consumption upon climate change and energy savings.
The aim is to bring students between 10 and 20 years to inspire an energy-efficient behaviour to wider society. In the first year some 50.000 schools throughout Europe participated.
The third year of FuturEnergia will retain many of the successful elements used in the past two years. First, the current website will be re-structured and re-launched in mid-September 2008, following the awards ceremony for the school year 2007-2008. The website will also provide a set of online classroom activities and competitions. As the programme promotes science teaching opportunities in a cross-curricular manner, teachers will be encouraged to download comprehensive guidelines and supporting materials to enhance their activities in classroom, and to add FuturEnergia to their 2008-2009 school calendar. This will enable students to experience and enjoy the programme activities as well as improving science teaching impact in school and society.
