Developed by Insafe, the European network for internet safety awareness, in partnership with Liberty Global/UPC, the e-safety kit targets families with children between six and 12 years old, and aims at stimulating discussion and knowledge of e-safety through educational activities, golden rules and useful links.
The e-safety kit guides them through the basics of the internet via the story of two youngsters, Alex (aka Julien, or Kuba as it was translated in other language packs) and Zeta (aka Anna, Céline, Emma, Zosia, Pika, or Teodora), their parents and the IT genius, Hedvig (aka Julia, Metka, Camille or Laura). Colour-coded chapters highlight four key e-safety themes: Security, Communication, Cyberbullying and Entertainment. When opening the colourful folder, families will find:
- Two e-safety booklets; a family fun section and a parental guide
- A family certificate
- Emoticon stickers
- 12 cut-out situation cards.
Through equal awareness of risk and remedy, localised useful links and contacts, fun activities and challenging discussion topics, the kit aspires to spark discussions about security, privacy, respect, codes of conduct etc.
