The first evening was an informal ‘get to know you’ session and the camp was officially opened the following morning with a welcoming speech given by Teresa Evaristo, the Vice Chairperson of EUN, from the Ministry of Education in Portugal. Anne Gilleran from the Central Support Service also welcomed the group as being the best eTwinning Schools in Europe having been chosen from among 100 candidates who made it to the second round of the eTwinning prizes.
The days of the eTwinning camp were split between work and leisure. Pupils and Teachers participated in different workshops. The first one, dedicated to intercultural learning and moderated by the CSS team members, was truly intercultural experience due to the great diversity of the participants – with pupils having origins in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Gambia and Egypt as well as the range of 13 European countries and Canada. On the second day the educational activities took place in Lisbon, with visits to the Pavilion of Knowledge for the older students and the Oceanarium for the younger. Finally, on the last day the pupils learned how to use ICT tools, with different workshops in animation (Oscar Stringer), podcasting (Thomas Maier) and video editing (Emile Vassalo).
The rest of the camp was devoted to more relaxing activities, such as a treasure hunt, sports activities, and a bus trip to Lisbon, where the group enjoyed a guided tour of the main sights.
On Thursday evening, each school celebrated their country through a combination of presentations, songs, traditional dances and regional delicacies. A European talent show marking the official closing of the camp provided a large variety of performances, from songs to dances. The outcomes of the various workshops were also presented and each participant received a certificate of attendance. The evening ended with a slideshow of the events of the camp.
The EUN team consisted of Sylvia Binger, Benedicte Clouet, Christina Crawley, Anne Gilleran, Alexa Joyce, Silvia Spinoso and Evita Tasiopoulou.
