EUN Steering Committee supports ICT in primary school project
Author: EUN News

At a recent meeting organised in Brussels on 7 February 2008, Steering Committee members have given support to EUN’s project to study the impact of Technology in primary schools (STEPS). STEPS is a continuation from a successful study conducted in 2006 on the impact of ICT in schools in Europe. The STEPS study aims to provide a comparative analysis on the integration of ICT in primary schools in the EU27 plus Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland, the first time such a large survey has taken place.

The project results will provide evidence for ICT in primary schools on which to base policy recommendation. STEPS is a service contract which was awarded to EUN in January by the European Commission DG Education and Culture.

The work is carried out by a consortium of European Schoolnet (EUN) and Empirica Gesellschaft für Kommunikations- und Technologieforschung mbH. Additionally a network of experts and national correspondents is currently been set up with the help of EUN’s steering committee. The role of the network of correspondents will be to give input to the literature review, policy survey and identify good practice in their country.  The final report will consist of three sections: evidence (literature review, quantitative and qualitative data), reports (including 30 country briefs on ICT in primary schools) and examples of good practice (in a searchable knowledge base).

STEPS runs from January 2008 to June 2009.
