6,000 schools registered for Spring Day in Europe 2006

Spring Day in Europe 2006 has reached the milestone of 6,000 schools. The 6,000th school is "Svetlina educational and cultural centre” from Sofia in Bulgaria.   

Spring Day is a unique opportunity for hundreds of thousands of young European to learn about and debate European issues at school. It takes place on 21 March 2006, with activities continuing until 9 May 2006.   

A total of 45 countries are represented, including all EU Member States and candidate countries. Romania leads the way with more than 1,800 schools registered. Poland is the second best represented country with more than 1,000 schools signed up. 

Schools have been signing up at a rate of more than 100 a day in recent weeks. The registration of the 6,000th school comes just there weeks after school number 4,000 - Szkoła Podstawowa nr. 6 im Janusza Korczaka, Poland - and one week after number 5,000 - Poroinica Grammar School, Romania. 

Spring Day in Europe is coordinated by European Schoolnet and supported by the European Commission’s DG COMM.
