eTwinning: The community for schools in Europe

eTwinning is the community for schools in Europe and gives teachers the opportunity and tools to join online collaborative projects, get involved in educational networking and participate in professional development activities.

The action was launched in 2005 as a means to provide online school twinning to schools across Europe. Over the course of the last five years, the action now involves approximately 70 000 registered teachers from 32 European countries and is now firmly established within Comenius, the EU programme for schools within the Lifelong Learning Programme.

European Schoolnet plays the role of Central Support Service for the action and is supported by a network of National Support Services throughout Europe whose role is to promote eTwinning and report on the activities in their countries.

The main tool of the eTwinning action is the eTwinning Portal developed by European Schoolnet. The Portal is available in 23 languages and offers, among others, partner-finding tools, social networking facilities and online working platforms for teachers and pupils to collaborate online.

European Schoolnet also offers a communication service – responsible for press releases and printed material - to help promote and provide information about the eTwinning action.
